Retained "Competent Person"

The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to appoint one or more competent persons to assist them to comply with their statutory health & safety obligations.

For many small and medium businesses, employing a suitably competent person is simply not feasible, and often not required.

We will provide full "Competent Person" support service, including visits to your premises and telephone & e-mail support for you and your staff.

Most importantly, we will be available when you need us, providing peace of mind and keeping your costs to a minimum.

Health and Safety Risk Assessment

Property owners, landlords & managing agents are legally required to carry out an assessment of the risks arising from their property to occupants, visitors, contractors, and even the Emergency Services.

Our professionally qualified consultants can carry out a full premises risk assessment on your behalf, culminating in a detailed report with photographic records and (if applicable) recommendations & Action Plan.

Utilising our considerable practical experience and methodologies approved by the Health & Safety Executive, we will identify the significant hazards in your workplace, evaluate the risks associated with them, and assist you to develop the appropriate control measures and safe systems of work.

Through working closely with you and analysing your hazardous activities, our bespoke Risk Assessments are written specifically for YOUR business and are not simply a set of "off -the-shelf" documents that have little or no relevance to your business activities.

We will then recommend the appropriate safe system of work and control measures to ensure that all the significant risks within your business are adequately controlled.

Health and Safety Policy Writing

A written Health & Safety Policy is a legal requirement for employers with more than 5 employees.

The Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require that every employer with 5 or more employees, shall prepare, monitor and review as necessary a written Health & Safety Policy, and communicate the contents of that Policy to its employees as appropriate.

We will provide a full and detailed Health & Safety Policy, tailored to your business, which will fulfil your statutory obligations.

“I am writing to you on behalf of the School to express our gratitude for the excellent support and advice that you have provided to us over the past two years as part of our Health and Safety Audit and Fire Risk Assessment.

It is fair to say that in a relatively short space of time, your support and advice has helped me to change the culture within the school by raising awareness and reducing uncertainty. I know that the risk assessment workshop training sessions which you presented to staff were well received, even by the most sceptical of participants!

Equally, the generic health and safety training which you designed specifically for our site staff was a resounding success and has instilled discipline and due consideration for basic health and safety procedures into their daily routines.”
Colin Hinds, Business Manager, Sir Christopher Hatton School, Wellingborough

“I wanted to thank you for the work you have been continuing to do for Bright Horizons in 2011. Your knowledge, expertise and commitment to Health and Safety is a real asset to us and you continue to make a significant contribution to our Governing Board and our working practices across our group.

The training you have delivered this year, ranging from our front line managers to our senior teams has been very valuable and is continuing to develop our knowledge, skills and abilities as well as mould strong leadership behaviours and attitudes towards a culture of effective health and safety management, occupational health and behavioural safety.

We look forward to continuing to work with you in 2012 and building our safer working practices and management systems to support our day to day work and the strategic aims of our organisation.”

“I have been impressed and have admired the high standards of health and safety that he set and - importantly - achieved. The approach taken by Dean in respect of health and safety at Rushden and Diamonds epitomised the whole Nene Park project at the time, and gave the local authority inspectorate confidence in its dealings with both the individual and the organisation.

I feel that this confidence and subsequent reputation is based on a no-nonsense approach to managing health and safety, aligned with a willingness to learn from others, to embrace good practice and to listen to advice. Dean has demonstrated a willingness to work in partnership with the local authority which has paid dividends in terms of minimizing the risks to the health and safety of those who worked at or visited Nene Park and it has left a legacy of a sustainable health and safety culture.

I am confident - on the basis of Dean's work at Nene Park - that he would add value to any organisation's approach to health and safety.”
M J Deacon, Head of Environmental Services, East Northamptonshire Council

Health and Safety Audit and Inspections

Even the most efficient of organisations will benefit from occasional safety inspections and audits to provide an independent analysis of its health & safety standards and performance.

Using the Health & Safety Executive's guidance document HSG65 "Successful Health & Safety Management" as the benchmark, we will provide an independent and confidential report with prioritised recommendations and a proposed Action Plan to ensure compliance with the relevant safety legislation.
